to low 70s. here is sal. >>> good morning. right now highway 4 traffic looks good coming up to the willow pass grade with no major problems. traffic is looking good all the way through. also the morning commute on the san mateo bridge that traffic is moving along very nicely. let's go back to the the desk. >>> we begin our 6:00 hour with that over night chase along the peninsula. someone stole a taxi in san francisco and led police on a high speed pursuit. paul chambers is at san francisco university where this pursuit ended. >> reporter: that is correct. the cab was actually taken away from here about an hour ago. police officer told me it all started with the cab driver just trying to be a nice guy. he had a person in his car that had too much to drink. as he helped that person out of the car an unrelated person jumped in the car and took off. this all started police say you can see the cab is being followed by half a dozen squad cars. it happened when the drivers stole the cab. the cab company was able to track the vehicle through gps as the suspect drove through several city streets b
, the system -- fast but it is here now and petaluma also has some rain, here is sal. >>> traffic is very slow and you can see for yourself how bad it is already on 880 northbound driving to the oakland area driving out of san leandro and give yourself extra time, those lanes are still closed however the alternate route suggested 880 westbound and even though there is a crash, it is not as bad as this and they are trying to get these cars out of the way, not a lot of serious injuries but freeway is blocked temporarily. this is a look at the other crash, 113 near 580, oakland fire is on the scene. 6:02 let's go back to the desk. >>> police in oakland are investigating an officer involved shooting. paul chambers joins us live to tell us what police and one witness is saying this morning, paul? >> reporter: we are expecting police to give us more details and so far the information is limited. here is what we do know, officers responded to an armed robbery in the 1,000 block of jefferson street. we learned that the victim is a female employee who claims she was robbed by three men at a nearby park

venue. >>> we want to go back over to sal because unfortunately we have some big things if you are out on the road. >> it has been the headline, northbound 880, we have shut down the freeway getting rid of a couple of crashes and they have opened a couple of lanes and they are trying to get some of the cars through and you can see this is terrible traffic on 880 northbound heading to downtown oakland an alternate route will be that slow but it would be better than this. what happened we had a couple of different injury crashes and it's just past high street. fortunately it was not severe but traffic is leaving san leandro for oakland, you need a different way if you are comfortable with city streets, or if you want to use 580, it would be a good alternate. let's move along, highway 4 westbound as you come up, there are no major problems there. this morning's commute is moving along okay, southbound 101, a crash on the shoulder and we have had a lot of fender- benders, give your time for this commute. >>> let's give us credit, it is moving really
. >>> all right, sal, we will be here for you and we have radar maps posted. >>> they have the latest officer involved shooting which happened at 10:00 last night near 11th and jefferson street. paul chambers is telling us what one witness is saying this morning. >> reporter: there is conflicting reports between police and the witness one person was taken to the hospital and two people were taken into custody. just before 10:00 last night oakland police responded to a call of an armed robbery and we learned a local female was robbed by three men. officers responding came upon the three men who matched the suspect's description and as the officers tried to detain the men, one of the officers tried to fire it. a field officer who did not have the weapons drawn, they pulled out their weapons and fired without a single command. >> i didn't hear anything, i was expecting them to say, get down or just stuff that i thought they would say and i just didn't hear anything. however there is no report and once again the suspect was taken to an area hospital on a

70 degrees, here is sal. >>> it looks like they did not find this crash, mcarthur maze, they have a couple of vehicles and it looks clear, there is a serious accident, 780 on military west, they just told us if you are driving from vallejo to venetia, it is not a good route and we will tell you more about this coming up and at 601 let's go back to the desk. >>> it happened and sent people running for their lives literally and one man is facing several charges as a result. janine de la vega is live in san jose to tell us more about how wal-mart plans to deal with all of this, janine? >> reporter: dave the wal-mart opened its doors and we just saw an employee doing that and they are hoping for a new day pause that is where he filled and hit two people. he intentionally crashed into the entrance of the store and the car landed itself on a beer display and witnesses say the driver got out of the car grabbed a blunt object and starting hitting people. at least one person and several employees were hurt and three were taken to the hospital in serious condition. workers are feeling uneas

. >>> be careful, sal is back and there has been a fatal crash, where is this? >> it's on 780 military west, we told you about it last time, military west, we had some reports that this could have been -- the person may have died from the accident or may have been having some sort of medical emergency. one person is confirmed dead and that means this is going to be a long-term closure, eastbound 780 at military west and we have alternates and probably the best alternate would be to use the carquinez bridge and again east 780 military west, it is a fatal crash and it will put more pressure on some of the other roads and again the roads are wet and it is not going to be a great commute and the wet weather will add to that. it looks like 880 went bound and cars are beginning to slow down in oakland. and we are getting a little bit of a commute, and metering lights go on and you need to give yourself some extra time, there could be a stalled vehicle there as well. again not a great commute and an extra few minutes is needed. let's go to steve. >>> there is some rai

in the final 4, sal castaneda is live on the cal campus where the team got a big send off this morning. good afternoon, sal. >> reporter: good afternoon, tory, yeah, the rain could not dampen anyone spirits here as the women's team from cal prepared for its first ever final 4. now the cal band, the spirit squad and dozens of fans came to hoss pavilion for a morning rally to send the team off. this is the first time a woman's team have gone to the final 4, many fans say they were aware it was predicteded to do well in the tournament with even the president picking the golden bears to be in the final 4. >> president obama and kobe bryant did so i am really excited. >> -- on monday that went into overtime. the players and the coach seemed thrilled to be getting this type of send-off. >> we always want to play for our fans and the community but to have this kind of send-off, i think the players are going to take this. we can probably fly without a plane to new orleans right now. >> now as you can see there were a handful of people who even waited around for the players to be escorted by police,

clark is off today. >>> breaking news from san jose. sal is following a bad accident that's causing big problems for the morning commute in the santa clara valley. >> that's right, tori and brian. this is the southbound connector ramp. it's a flipped over cement truck. minor injuries to someone involved in that crash. also, just up the road, northbound 101 at alum rock between 280 and alum rock, there is a minor injury crash there as well. these two accidents are going to cause trouble for the morning commute on 101 and on 280 in this area. so please give yourself extra time. another traffic update is just minutes ahead. back to the desk. >>> happening right now -- president obama getting ready to announce a new government- funded research initiative aimed at improving our understanding of how our brain works. the goal is to come up with new treatments for disorders such as alzheimer's epilepsy and traumatic brain injury. a stanford professor is heading up the university along with bartman at the university. not sure who is speaking at the podium. president obama is there and i believe

the suspect before police arrived. >>> 7:08. we want to check in with sal, get an update on the situation in santa clara valley and the rest of the commute. sal? >> that's right. we're gonna start there. newschopper2 is overhead of this cement truck that flipped over from 280 to 101. there it is. fully loaded. they are going to need some time this to right this truck and get it out of the way. our newschopper2 is showing us these live pictures. the chp says they will take some time with this. they actually have called caltrans in for what they call a hard closure, that means they will put out cones instead of flares on this ramp. it seems to be affecting traffic a little bit on 10 1. just up the -- 101. just up the road there's another crash, it's minor in comparison. this is southbound 280, connector ramp to 101 in san jose. also, moving along and taking a look at the alternate route, 85 is not bad, 85 to 87. that's a good route for you if you want to do that. and also if you want to get fon 87 to downtown san jose and forget 101 for now. let's tak

, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> 7:07. we want to go to sal right now there is a problem on the lower deck of the bay bridge that you've been following. what is it looking like there? >> reporter: they've canceled the sig-alert eastbound. but that problem still causing slow traffic because it has to unwind. eastbound on the lower deck of the bay bridge, a truck hit the -- i guess hit the top part of the bridge. you see treasure island. there's some debris there. and traffic was slow. it's still slow as they closed the lane to do that for about 25 minutes. now they just opened it. they just opened all of the lanes. if you are leaving san francisco for oakland, you still may see some slow traffic. westbound has not been affected. westbound traffic continues to move as normal. let's take a look at westbound at the toll plaza where the normal delay of about 20 minutes at the toll plaza. in the south bay, 237 westbound, you will see traffic, a little bit slow, not that bad. as you drive over to one. 7:08. let's go to steve. >>> a very good morning. a ver
this morning's commute into a mess. numerous fender benders. 880 in oakland. sal casteneda in the traffic center. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the rain has stopped for now but earlier this morning it was pretty steady rain coming down. we've seen numerous cars this morning and didn't have headlights on. that makes it dangerous in these rainy conditions. we've been monitoring traffic accidents. it has been a very busy morning. this is an accident that happened on a high overpass. this honda crashed when it was traveling on the northbound 280 connector to southbound 17. that happened in the last hour and a half. the crash caused the lights to disable. the driver of on coming pick-up truck didn't see the honda and ended up clipping the car. >> she was driving too fast and the roadways were wet. lost control. she was doing about 65 miles an hour on the ramp. she felt a bump, hit the brakes, lost control and hit the divider. >> reporter: police in downtown san jose was investigating an accident where the driver of an suv slammed into a palm tree. the driver was knocked unconscious
